Waterfront and Lakefront Homes in Tahoe Keys is as unique as the neighborhood itself; Tahoe Keys is the only development of its kind – a unique private 750-acre marina resort community of 1220 homes and 335 town-homes sitting on eleven miles of inland waterways located in South Lake Tahoe, California.
The Tahoe Keys is one of several communities of higher-end homes and condos that are highly sought after. This area is ideally suited for those who love boating and the outdoors. Most of the homes in this neighborhood come with beautiful mountain views and are situated on channels of water. Many Tahoe Keys homes come with boat docks and sit on waterways that have direct access to the lake while others border lagoons which provide a quiet place to paddle and enjoy the water. Besides the access to Lake Tahoe and water sports, this neighborhood also has many HOA amenities like tennis courts, a basketball court, indoor and outdoor pools, spa, a park, beach and much more.
The marina in the Tahoe Keys provide rentals, storage and supplies for boaters and the waterfront restaurant there serves excellent food in the bar, in the upstairs dining room and outside on the lawn. The marina is also home to an annual Wooden Boat Show and other activities.
Most of the homes were built in the period between 1960 to 1975, during which the subdivisions, or units, were first established. The Keys were first envisioned to be just that – key-shaped. The name comes from the old skeleton key, which features small protrusions extending from a straight base. That’s not how the area turned out, however. The modern Keys are an amalgam of islands and peninsulas with no particular symmetry at all.
The Keys were dredged and molded from the middle of the Truckee Marsh, a vast wetlands area that was fed by the Upper Truckee River and Trout Creek. Contrary to popular belief, the Keys were not filled in, in the classic sense of the term. No foreign materials were brought in – the area was simply dredged, and the extra soil was used to form the different islands.
